Answers:
What kind of Blue tounge lizard are you getting?

We have a blue tounge skink, it eats large crickets, fresh fruits and veggies and that's it. I do not reccomend feeding them dog foods and do not feed mice untill they are older and are very used to you...
As for cage...they need a very long cage...a 3 foot should be good for a while, but you may have to move up to atleast a 50 gal tank for them...
You're right with the different temp sides each with a hide...and they need plently of fresh water...changed daily.
Bedding, they are better off on reptile bark than aspen, if you do use aspen, make sure it's shredded and doesnt have chuncks in it at all...

Here's some sites that might help a little more...

I hope this helps..GOOD LUCK!!

I would agree with Kayla on care, but with one exception. See if you can find a cage that is made of nylon mesh. It zips together (open and shut) and allows the best air circulation. You can set the cage on a solid surface with newspaper underneath, and bedding inside (we used wood bark from Petco).

My son has kept a blue-tounged skink, still going strong after eight years in such a cage. The diet you propose sounds good, add a little fruit maybe... banana was a big hit with my son's pet.
They live for about 20 years and are seven to twenty four inches in legnth. A full grown bluetounge should be housed in a 40 to 55 gallon tank. The cool end should be between 75 and 85 degrees and the hot end between 90 and 95 degrees during the day. At night the tempurature should not fall below 70 degrees. You will need a basking light (like a ceramic heat lamp they tend to last longer) and a full spectrum light (either fluorescent or newer Active uv bulb). For the bedding I don't care for that type of substrate they harbor paracites eisier, I use cocout fiber (Eco Earth from Zoo Meds) . Thier diet should be 60% plant and 40% animal matter. I feed mine a veriety of frozen vegies, fresh fruit, mealworms, and crickets. Variety is key. They also need calcuim exspecialy while they are growing for strong bones, one that has vitamin D3. I srinkle this over there greens. They make a very good pet and I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine. Good luck!
