Any snake experts out there? My husband has found a snake the cat brought in, it has a yellow stripe down the?

Question:center of its back, with gray spots/splotches on its sides, its base color is a greenish gray. We live in southren colorado out on the plains, if that helps. I am thinking it is a garter snake but not sure. He has it trapped under a pot untill I get home he is afraid of snakes so i will have to get it out when i get home. Just wondering what it is and any ideas on how to get it out without hurting it or without it bitting me.

I've been around snakes all my life. 100% by the description you gave its a garter. The easiest way would be to throw a towel over it, then scoop up the whole towel in a ball keeping the snake inside, and toss it outside it should find its way out. to be sure just shake the towel outside. Good Luck!

sounds like your hubby and mine are brothers, I live in the deep south and I am the snake hunter, I litteraly saw my husband beat a 12 inch black snake to death with a 6 foot 2x4. lol, sounds like your right on track with the garter snake though just be careful and I would suggest a hoe which you can use to lift pot then pick up snake with to carry to a safe area.
from your description it sounds like he caught a garden/garter snake. to me they are a pretty snake

Yup, I'd say garter snake too. I'd still be cautious, and use a long stick or broom handle to tip over the pot. These days, you never know what your neighbor has neglected and let escape. If it is a garter snake, please let it go on it's merry way. I'm sure you are aware of their usefulness.
