Question:i know crickets eat
cricket feed
carrots
steamed rice
lettuce
but what else do they eat?
Answers:
Crickets are omnivores and feed on almost anything-usually organic materials, plant decay, grass, fruits, seedling plants, fungi and even meat. Crickets need good diet otherwise they tend to feed on each other. Cricket foods are commercially available in the market at feed shops. There are specific brands of cricket feed also. For a few crickets, tropical fish make a good meal though it would be expensive. Rolled oats with fresh fruits and vegetables is an ideal food for crickets. Cornflakes, bread and digestive biscuits can also be given. Crickets also relish fruits like apples, bananas and grapes and vegetables like tomatoes, potatoes, lettuce and cabbage. Chicken laying mash is also good cricket food and is cost effective for feeding large number of crickets. Some food supplements like alfalfa, calcium supplements and raw vegetable scraps can also be added for additional nutrition. The food can be placed in an open and shallow container that is placed firmly on the ground. This container needs to be cleaned regularly to prevent the formation of mold.
Crickets also need a good supply of water. However, keep the water away from the food to keep the food dry and fresh. Insert cotton swabs into the water vessel to prevent the crickets from drowning. Raising crickets is very easy.
I know what eats them...but not the other way around
They drink water
oranges
suplys food and water
other crickets
western whopper
Give them the jelly water. They will drown in regular water. Its usually yellow, so watch out for stains. It also dries up, so change it regularly (like every three days). Take out dead crickets because they poisen the other ones.
You can feed them pretty much any fruit or veggie as well as dog food. If you want to up the nutritional value for feeding your pets stick to dark leafy greens and other vitamin packed foods.
They like most fresh fruit and veggies, also for water give them a wet spunge inside of a water dish, cut it to fit tight in the dish and make sure it stays very wet.
To those who talk about feeding them to other animals, this is not a good idea, they can carry many things that can make larger animals very sick, and normal pellet food or other things like that are much better for larger animals.
If you really want to give crickets a good life, let them outside in the park, they'll do the rest. Or put them in your back yard, makes a really nice sound a night and lets them have a free good life.
They sell gut loading food that should have all the vitamins, and often includes their water since they drown so easily:)
From my experience, they love oatmeal, potato, orange, raw sunflower seeds, and wheat. They need water also.
