Another leopard gecko question?

Question:my gecko has a heating pad on the floor of its vivarium and I am not sure if it is enough to heat my gecko. The vivarium floor is covered in tree bark pieces and that does not spread the heat and the pad itself is not very hot. Is this a suitable enclosure for him?

Answers:
Leo needs warm place. If the floor is not hot enough, the bacteria inside his stomach may activate and cause your leo sick. Yes, leo is a desert animal. I agree with Ryan that you should get rid of the bark. I put the heatpad under the tank with two or three layers of the towel paper.
I am not sure about the sand. I have read both pro and con in using sand.

If its a leopard gecko it needs to have a desert type of setup. Get rid of the tree bark and go with sand as a substrate.
