Are Grow-a-frogs really just African Clawed frogs?

Question:Are grow-a-frogs really just acf's? Also, if it's illegal to have clawed frogs in Az (without a permit) why are grow-a-frogs not illegal? Are grow-a-frogs illegal in AZ?

Answers:
I just emailed the comany. I asked if they were african dwarfs or african clawed frogs. All they could tell me was that they grow to half the size of a dollar bill. They couldn't even tell me what kind they are! Thats a load of hooey if you ask me.
I read some other articles and most are saying that they are acf's so I emailed her again and asked if they were african clawed frogs and do they ship to Arizona. I don't think I'll be getting a response, but will let you know if I do.

Update:
I got a reply...All this person told me was that the frogs they use are legal in Arizona. But that they would not ship there this time of year because it's too hot. They are selling a living thing and won't even "disclose" what it is!? How irresponsible is that?! Grrrr...Sorry...Get a little peeved by that.

They are african clawed frogs. I know for sure that they are illegal in california. If they grow to half the size of a dollar bill, they are clawed frogs. Dwarf frogs grow to the size of a nickel.
These are " Pipidae frogs", which in nature originally come from South America and Africa. They are a relative of the Clawed Frogs, but not necessarily ACTUAL African Clawed frogs.

The stuff that one of my friends who got several Growafrogs got (is that a sentence? :) said that these were genetically modified frogs (and that's why they are somewhat see-through), and therefore are generally sterile.

This could easily be why they are not illegal. They are (supposed to be) sterile, and so are not likely to devastate the environment and native species if they should (heavens forfend) get out into the wild.
They dont want them because they are an extreme pest. EATING EVERYTHING IN THE WATERS! due to idiots releasing their pets...

Species control should include legislation to minimize the potential for release through the pet trade. This approach has been adopted in several U.S. states where it is illegal to own, transport or sell African clawed frogs without a permit. States that have adopted this approach include Arizona, California, Florida, Kentucky, Louisiana, New Jersey, North Carolina, Oregon, and Virginia. Attempts to eradicate established invasive populations have had mixed results. Attempts including trapping, drainage of ponds, and poisoning have been effective for smaller populations,,

I found this answer to another person question that they posted about acfs. It does list Az as a state they are illegal in. Grow a frog frogs are african clawed frogs. If they will send you one then I wouldn't worry about it. I have a yahoo group about acfs and own 11 of them. I know of people in my group that live in some of those states and they have them without any troubles. Were you planning on getting a froglet from them or a tadpole? Either way if you would like to join my yahoo group and learn about them and there care here is the site address. They are great as pets.
