Are boas okay pets for kids?

Question:

Answers:
i a teen and own a 12 foot red-tailed boa

My first snake was a boa constrictor. My father never asked how large it would grow! Rupert lived for fifteen years! If the kid deserves the snake YES,by all means.
i have 6 boas they are pretty tame but they might get 12' though most grow to about 7' and will eat large rabbits as adult size . these snakes are very strong and may not be a good idea for a small child. my largest one is around 4' and he is a little bit over a year old and can already eat a small rat so they grow pretty quick . you may want to consider something else . but i do think boas are the best but just not a good idea for small children unless an adult is around to supervise . you may want to buy a ball python instead they dont get verry big but whatever you deside to get go ahead and set up everything first then get the one you have desided on then put it in its new home and leave it alone for a week then try to feed it if it want eat try another 2-3 day then try again the reason for this is for that you dont put it in to stress once you get it eating good then go ahead and take it out play with with it or whatever i know that they will want to get it out every day but please wait untill its eating good 1st you and your kid , and the snake will be alot happier . a good idea when you pick one out is to find one with a good body mass and check it for mights and make sure its not crapping green . if you think you may want a ball python i have some for sale for $30 + s&h just email me and ill try to get you some pics as soon as possible thanks and good luck
in dont think that red-tailed boas are okay pets for kids if they dont have any experiance with snakes because red-tailed boas grow from seven feet to twelve feet. also you might not have the right requierments and proper care. i would say that a great beginner snake for kids would be a corn snake. they love to be handled and they are not aggressive.
The best beginner snake for a child is a garter snake. They are small, easy to handle, easy to feed. That was my first snake. He died of old age.
No, they will eat them in one gulp. Say goodbye to the boa or your kids, which do you want more?
I think the larger boids are inapropriate for children. Some are even dangerous for adults...especially during feeding. A 12ft. 180+ pound animal can easily injure a child. There are many smaller boas and pythons that do not reach the large size of the bigger boids and make great pets. Children's pythons, brazilian rainbow boas and some other boas and pythons are more suitable.
It depends on the age and maturity of the child and if the parents are willing to help out and supervise the care and handling . I had three children that grew up with all kinds of snakes , including a 12 foot Burmese and a 10 foot red tailed boa . I have pictures of my kids in the high chair with my boa . We even had Monical Cobras in a locked cage . As with any pet they need to be tought how to care for them and respect them , they are not toys . Here is a good web site to do further research on most any snake http://www.repticzone.com The parents also need to be willing to provide any needed veterinary care for the pet . Most snakes mean a long term commitment but they can be very educational .
