Question:i have an young red ackie that is about 3 inches snout-vent lenght and just added another of the same size to the enclosure. they have previously been housed together (a few months ago). the original ackie is showing aggression to the new one when it sits on 'his' basking spot while he is there. since they are still young the sex is unknown, while i know males will fight, i also have heard that females can become dominant with other females. i was just wondering how concerned i should be, as i dont want to lose the new ackie. there is no damage done when the original ackie nips, but i dont want it to go any further or stress the new one out too much.
Answers:
I keep many kinds of reptiles. They all share the same pattern of behavior.
I have none that are kept together.
Reptiles will fight and be aggressive and the stress from the aggression can kill them.
I have breed ackie monitors before, as well as many other monitors. I keep them separate even if they "grow up" together. It is just a rule of thumb for my reptiles.
