Question:A Turtle's Jaw?
I'm wondering from the a small turtle like a red ear slider to a very large one like a Snapping Turtle. What can they bite through?
I heard Snapping Turtles can bite through metal, and broom sticks as thick as 25mm. But what about small turtles and others?
So basically Im asking:
1. What can turtles bite through?
2. What kinds of turtles can bite through _____?
3. What can all turtles bite through?
If you can please answer at least 1 of the 3 questions above.

My experience, which is considerable with fresh water turtles, is that their bite strength is often exaggerated. Even large red eared sliders will seldom break the skin if they bite you, I don't recommend that you try it to see. Adult box turtles seldom do more than pinch. Large soft shelled turtles appear to be capable of a nasty bite, I stay clear of their bill, but haven't experienced a bite from them. Common Snappers up to about five pounds, 1/4 adult size, still don't have much of a bite but I have never been bitten by a big one. I've seen large Common Snappers bite sticks, when teased, without much affect. I once had an Alligator Snapper about 20 lbs. (small) bite my oar. It left tiny gouges on either side of the paddle. I've never seen a large Alligator Snapper bite anything solid and I suspect that they might be able to bite through a broom handle but biting through anything iron, like say small gage angle iron is out of the question. Teasing such animals into hurting themselves by preforming in such a manner is deplorable.
All turtles can bite thorough their normal food materials, which are earth worms, small boned fish, shelled animals like snails and crayfish which they more sort of crunched than sheared through. Salt water turtles may have much more bite pressure than fresh water turtles do.
As for shearing off a finger, I'm sure some large turtles could do it. I've seen Common Snapping Turtles about as big as they get 25 lbs or more and I don't think that one could do it. A large Alligator Snapping Turtle could likely do it with no problem. My grandfather had a matching V-shaped scar on the top and bottom of one foot where he had stuck it into an Alligator Snapper's mouth while wading barefoot in muddy water. It slashed the skin on both sides but didn't break any bones. I suspect that large salt water turtles could bite even harder.
1) Beside for snapping turtles, they can't really snap through that hard of stuff...they can break pieces of of floating docks and can chomp down fish but my RES that is about it..
2) Alligator snapping turtles can bite extremely hard-they showed one on Conan O' Brien and he bit through a raw hot dog but their force is extreme according to the experts on dirty jobs as well. I've seen one in person-it is crazy.
3) All turtles can bite through fish and cuttlebone.
1. A turtle can bite through paper, leaves, and meat.
2. A Snapping Turtle for example can bite through almost anything. Almost. LIke meat and sometimes when people aren't careful, the Snapping Turtles can bite them.
3.Hmm...this one is tough, they can bite meat, leaves.
