Do box turtels uaually lay their eggs in water or on land?

Question:We have a box turtle that was in our little pool and it layed eggs and I didn't know if that was normal.

Answers:
Do you provide it with soil? normally they lay their eggs on land. and they also need a way to get out of the water so their shells don't get spongy.

Its unusual that a box turtle would have laid in water. Box turtles are terrestrial, and to my knowledge, even aquatic turtles, from the mud turtles, to the mighty sea tortoises lay on land.
ground...in a little burrow...they dont go in the water
