Question:I brought her home just yesterday and she is VERY hyper. Will she EVER calm down?
Answers:
Ferrets are very active animals. They sleep about 18 hours a day and when they get up they are into everything, want to play, etc.
Baby ferrets are especially hyper. They love to play. I have five ferrets ranging in ages from 18 months to 4 years. My 18 month old is a wild one. She never sits still when she is out of the cage. My 4 year old is more a mischief maker than hyper. He will climb things, knock stuff off of shelves.
Ferrets never really calm down. When they are awake they want to be into everything. I suggest you get the book Ferrets for Dummies, as it is very insightful and recommended by many for new ferret owners
you have kidnapped it and trapped it in a cage. it wont stop being hyper until depression kicks in and it loses all hope. the ferret will be calm but miserable for your own sick enjoyment
Perhaps the ferret needs to be fixed.
don't listen to the tree hugger ferrets can be a lot of fun but they require a lot of attention the best thing to do is to get a male play mate for her if you don't be prepared to give her a lot of attention and she will settle down in time when she gets use to her surroundings and its not from deprasion also they are very loving
I once had a ferret and he was extremely hyper as well, especially when I first brought him home - he was about 4 months old and used to being with his brothers and sisters with no restraint. Eventually he calmed down and even bonded with my cat (after a few scraps that is). Good luck.
As a ferret owner- They are crazy- One of the funnest animals out there. They keep you on your toes at all times that they are awake. -be careful to ferret proof your house- they do get into many things -but as long as you ferret proof you'll have no issues beside the sometimes not getting to the litter. which does happen sometimes. they are very loyal animals. but when they are awake they NEED TO BE OUT. they are not to be a caged animal- I hate when I see them in a cage.Good luck and you'll have fun with you little one.
Also lots of toys- many toys and ramps and pockets
Ferrets are naturally hyper critters. This is why I ALWAYS tell people to research an animal before they purchase one. Had you researched ferrets you would have expected this hyper activity.
As ferrets age, just like any other animal, they will mellow out a bit.
Here is a great website to help you and your new addition understand eachother better: http://www.ferretuniverse.com
Good luck and luvz to the fuzz!
