A question for vegan pet owners?

Question:If your a vegan and your belief is that every living creature deserves to live its life - what do you do if your own pets get flea's or ticks ?

Answers:
I always ensure that my dog is wormed and has a flea treatment (both drugs from my vet not the rubbish sold at pet shops). As an animal lover, I would not want my dog to suffer worms or fleas - how cruel is that. Yes, you can argue the life of the flea or tick has a value but you need to be sensible.

Animals don't care about human beliefs.
Lions and piranhas tend NOT to take the veggie option, so kill the fleas and ticks.

If you care so much about the sanctity of life, I hope you walk along with a microscope to make sure you don't tread on bacteria, and that you don't drink water because of the amoebas etc which live in it. (Sorry, only joking.)
I'm not a vegan, but I am a very strict vegetarian. I don't believe that every living creature deserves to live it's life as such... I just believe that I don't need to eat them or wear them or to exploite them. If I am able to make domestic animals comfortable I will, tics and fleas cause discomfort and disease to domestic animals, getting rid of the tics or fleas does not conflict with my vegetarian lifestyle as i don't intend to eat, wear or exploit them, just to kill them!! ;)
I would treat it immediatley. Ticks and fleas carry all sorts of disease. I appreciate the value of life etc but if it is detrimental to the dog/cats life then they need to be treated for the parasite ASP. Not only that they can live in your carpets in the house too.
I am not a vegan, however I have a friend how is. I asked her what she thinks on the subject. She stated that her goal is to not exploit animals, and to treat them with respect. She will kill fleas and ticks as they make her pets uncomfortable. It’s a chain thing, her life is worth more than her pets, and her pets are worth more than fleas. Even with the most extreme cases of vegans they have to draw a line somewhere. Her main point is we should not kill unless we have to, so no animal products, however swatting a mosquito or killing a flea is in defense as they are attacking you or your pet.
If you really believe every creature has a right to life you can't take measures to kill the ticks or fleas. Your own pet might suffer as a result of you beliefs but they will cope because it is natural for them. Wild animals are infested with all sorts but that is just nature's way. The problem is that you have a pet that has been breeded out of its natural environment.
I you feel stongly enough not to kill then you might have to live with more 'pets' than you bargained for.
