A adopting question?

Question:When you go to a animal shelter and adopt a dog ,do they charge you and then you have to fill out forms or is the dog free and you still have to fill out forms. What happens?I really want to adopt a dog so I really want to know. Also what happens while you are are there.I really will appreciate a question from someone with experience

Answers:
First off, these dogs are not free. Usually an adoption fee will run you about $75. This is to pay for the vet check-up they willl receive before being given to you, which includes a round of necessary shots, and spaying/neutering.

And yes, most likely you will fill out forms. Shelters want the best home possible for their animals, and they want to make sure that a candidate is financially able and competent to take care of a pet.

Also, some rescues (especially breed-specific ones) want to have you on file for tracking purposes. They like to make home checks every now and then to see how things are going.

As far as being there:
You go to the dog section of the shelter, and walk the rows where the dogs are stationed in their kennels. If you find one you like, there will most likely be a card on the kennel with simple information about them: their name, age, breed, and their overall personality.

If you decide you want to adopt this dog, you can request to take them outside their cage for a little one-on-one time with them. Volunteers will then lead you to an outside area where you can play and interact with the dog, and get a feel if they're the right one for you.

If you decide to go through with adoption, go to the front and request a history on the dog. Many animals, sadly, are relinquished for good reason. Some have behavioral issues, such as fence-climbing, that cannot be handled by a beginner owner, and it is good to check a dog's history to be sure that nothing will conflict with your lifestyle.

After you FINALLY (xD) decide to seal the deal, the front office will hand you some paperwork to fill out. When you turn it in, someone may question you a bit on simple things such as: Are you a beginner owner? How many animals do you have? Are they all spayed/neutered, or current on vacinations? ect.

If you pass their "exam" of sorts, the dog is officially yours after paying the fee. You will pick them up from the shelter probably in the next 2-3 days, due to the mandatory spay/neuter.

It sounds complicated, but when you're out there in real life, it can actually be a quick, simple process for a deserving owner!

You find a dog you want to adopt then you fill out forms and then you pay the money after you get approved. while your there you find the dog then they may do a home inspection. besides that you wait theyre usually pretty fast but not always.
It varies from shelter to shelter but generally you fill out an application and you pay a fee.
We adopted a dog once, what we had to do is fill out the papers, then if you are approved, they will contact you and then you can pay the adoption fee. In some cases the dog will have to go to the vet for a checkup, and the animal shelter will contact you after a while and see how things are going.

They are not free, because they gave the dog shots and baths and cared for them, but it is not expensive, they run from $20.00 to $250. And yea, you have to fill out forms, and good luck on getting your dog! I just got a male Pomeraninian named Butter on the 4th!
