Question:Hey guys,
I have a female syrian, got her 3 weeks ago and she is addicted to chewing her bars on her cage! I've changed her cage 2, one was with one funnel tube and the other was higher with 2 bubble tubes for her to go through, finally i got her this large 24inch cage and she's still chewing the bars, more so then ever. She pushes her feet back and chews aggressively, and I can'st stop her. She has chew toyws such as those fruit flavored kebobs and apple wooden chews from an apple tree. she ignored them, i even used lemon but she got used to it. I heard chewing bars is bad as it misaligns her teeth, and I can't switch her cage to an glass one because she freaks if she can't climb anything. Is there any full proof method there to get her to stop chewing?!
Answers:
An easy way to solve this problem is to pick up bitter apple spray from the pet store, and spray it on the bars of her cage. You SHOULD NOT use lemon on the bars of her cage - if you are stop right now. Lemon contains citric acid which is bad for a hamster's sensitive stomache. Bitter apple spray not only is harmless, but it also is more effective.
get a glass one, but get a big climbing thing so she still has something to do.
well maybe she really and i mean REALLY wants to get out she probably doesnt like being confined in a small area! i wouldnt like being in a cage would u?
shes bored, play with her more. challenge her. like for dogs they havr that hide the treat in the ball thing. Good Luck!
Sounds like something may be stressing her. Try giving her some 'free time' out of her cage every day so she can satisfy her natural curiosity.
