Am I old enough to volunteer at an animal shelter or rescue center? And how would I volunteer?

Question:I have no life, so Im looking for something to do, maybe once or twice a week. And I absolutely love animals... So I want to volunteer at an animal shelter, but I dont know if I'm old enough. I am thirteen and I am pretty responsible... But If I can volunteer, what are the chances an animal shelter would want me?

Answers:
Yes you are just go and talk to them. If you are under a certain age your parents may have to sign a form saying that they are allowing you do help out there. Animal shelters love to have volinteers!!

no, i think you have to be 16 or 18, depending on where u live
they prob would take you...
Yes, and they take all the help they can get. I volunteer at one (I'm 20) and I see kids working there all the time. Basically just go in and sign up, and they'll just want you to walk the dogs and play with them.
If you're old enough, they'll want you. They need all the help that they can get and I've never known a shelter to turn a volunteer away. You'll have to check on the age thing though.
you have to be like almost 16 and you woul dbe helping with feeding an dcleaning and stuff. I used to be in your situation it sucks
You will have to go apply at the local shelter where you wish to volenteer. They can tell you the age you must be to work. If you are not old enough, maybe you can try earning money to donate to help keep the shelter running. Always ideas to help.
good enough age. they are not hiring you so its fine. plenty of young teens do community service..this falls under community service. so just go to a local shelter or rescue center and inquire from there. good for you.
Yes you are old enough
no you have to be 16
Usually, animal shelters are very busy and full! They are publically funded, so most of the employees you see there are actually volunteers. They best thing would be to call them up, and see what their guidelines are for volunteering, age shouldn't be a problem since they aren't actually paying you. Maybe you could offer them a service, like taking the stray dogs for a walk or brushing them. You could also create a letter introducing yourself, your experience with animals and why you want to be a volunteer. The more info, the better. That way you can send it out to the different shelters, and they may just call you! Good Luck.
Of course you can help at an animal shelter at your age! I love animals too and I really appreciate your eagerness to help animals in need! Animals need the care and help of responsible people like you!
At 14 at the shelter where I volunteer you can clean the cages for small animals and cats. Of course you get to play with them while you do it. At 16 you can also clean and play with the dogs with supervision. At 18 you can walk the dogs as well. You have to have your own home (not rented to foster)

This is just my shelter. Why not call you local one and see what rules apply there. You maybe able to start younger there. It's well worth asking.

You may not have much social life right now, but please don;t think you have no life. You have a wonderful life in front of you. Looks like you are well on the way to making it everything you want it to be.
You may be too old, you‘re like 91 in human years. Can you still herd sheep? If it were me, I would let some human know you can type.
Most places you have to be 16 to handle the animals but they may have other duties for you. For instance the one I volunteer at sometimes has younger volunteers help with laundry, fundraising, office tasks, and stuff like that. They still get to come in and help out, they still get to pet the dogs and cats, they just aren't given the responsibility (and risk of injury) that comes with providing one-on-one care to an animal. No matter what you do, it's important to the care of the animals.
Check with your local shelter and make sure you have parental permission. In fact have your parents go along to check it out.
