Is 1/2 a discount point cut on a mortgage other?

I'm buying a new home and my builder wants me to tag on some changes that will cost $1000. I've been told the builder will buy down the loan to 1/2 a discount point. I'm getting a thirty year fixed loan and will probably stay within the house for 5 to 7 years. Is worth it?
Answers:
It probably is worth it, but ask them to buy it down a whole point. The upfront cost to them may be worth selling a house, and save you some $$$$$$$$$
