what do you mean by extension? more money or more time to pay packet it back? forbearance on a specific payment?
If it's issues beside making your payment on time, contact you lender and they will usually work out a repayment agreement especially surrounded by the current mortgage climate. They really don't want to take your house.
If you need more money, try refinancing. Rates are low presently.
