How to modernize credit/get mortgage after identity robbery?

Last year my boyfriend's credit score was surrounded by the high 700's, now this year after have some one steal his credit cards and money his credit score is 571 because they racked up his bills. He filed a police report, but nil ever came out of it because the guy apparently fled and can't be found.
We're looking to buy a house in the subsequent couple of months, but we were told your credit has to be above 600 to obtain approved. He was pre-approved for a good amount of money formerly all of this happened. Does anyone know anything that can be done to superior his credit score the 29 points or to make him eligible for a mortgage?

The other two posters are correct, but I will add this.

Make double payments on credit cards, car loans, etc.. Not necessarily two full payments, possibly the full payment, then throw another 20 bucks on it two weeks after that.

What you really need to be shooting for is 620. Source(s): Oregon Realtor
Your boyfriend desires to write to each credit reporting company. He needs to transport a copy of the police report. He needs to contact each credit card company and convey the same police report. He is NOT respociable for those bills. That is the law. he should of contacted the reporting companies a long time ago in relation to his credit card bills.
he requests to send a copy of his police report to the 3 major credit bureaus! they can flag and remove any disputed items during the time within which this identity theft was ongoing!

best of luck!
Well there is greatly going on here.

First, Write the credit companies.

Second, cancel out any credit cards that are open to lower the amount of available credit. This may lend a hand. Best way is to lok at your report and see if you have approaching some home depot card you never used and cancel. I had two discover cards on mine and I have never used them so I canceled those out.

Third, go back to the edge that preapproved him and see if they will still honor the preapproval with the proof of income and liabilities and police report.

Fourth, you can do one of two things. Come up beside a large cash down salary to ofset the bad credit. The more you put down the more likely the wall will give you credit. OR take division of your down payment and pay rotten some of your smaller debts like a credit card or an auto loan. Paying these off will look fitting on the credit score.

But remember it takes a few months for the suitable stuff to be credited to your score.
