No it doesn't hurt your credit. It gives you more power to pre-qualify for negotiations. Because you already know what you inhibit is and you can show that to seller. The approved amount is like brass in your hands. Make sure however that once you gain pre-approval you do nothing to change you credit chalk up before you close, such any major purchase especially a motor.
Doesn't necesarily hurt credit but it does show on your credit report. So don't go getting prequalified at 20 banks (looks bad). 1 -3 is ok, but any more and its not fitting.
