When you apply for a mortgage does everyone surrounded by your house draw from credit checked?

I'm asking because me and my bf are looking into applying for a mortgage but my mum has a bad credit history, so much so that my house is surrounded by my step dad's name as my mum couldn't get approved and she said that she will be checked too. Is this promising to affect my credit score? and stop me getting approved for a mortgage?
