Question:My betta defientinatly needs an upgrade from his current bowl. We have a 55 gallon fish tank and two Plecos. The Plecos are older and have gotten along well with other fish we have put in. My father says he has put in a Betta with them before, and they did fine, but now that they are bigger, would there be a problem? Or is the tank just too big? Or is there no problem and I should just go along with it? What other fish could we put in if this combo works? Thanks!
Answers:
The male Betta's are a very calm fish unless the fin's get bumped or nipped at...then they will attack any fish that does it. Even to the point of death if the fish continues to do it over and over again. But other than that...they get along fine with other fish. PS...the tank size won't matter to the Betta even for air because of them being labyrinth breathers. Just make sure there is room at the surface for him to get his air bubbles.
he should be alright but plecos are territorial he will get along if the plecos don't attck him
are these common plecos? if so, they will outgrow the tank
How big are they currently?
I have one of my Betta's in a 55 gallon along with 2 red tail sharks, 2 pink kissing gourmies, 3 mollies and 1(10 inch pleco) and they do fine! Good luck!
your betta will be fine with plecos , they are only agressive with other plecos and yours seem to be doing really great, they are really peacfull fish and as a poster said if they are common pleco they will outgrow your tank if not common yur pretty on the safe side, for the bigger tank i wouldnt suggest him with bigger fish or flashy fins like guppies or he will attack them, small fish like neon tetras, and other schooling fish will be a nice sight to see in a big tank :) o and dont put any angels too he might attack them or vice versa.
goodluck :)
ya pleco can go with any fish except silver dollars and angel fish because they are slow moving fish and the pleco might suck on then but ya the Betta would do fine in there put i would be a pretty empty tank with only 2 plecos and a Betta try getting some goldfish
