A dying fish: do you euthanize or let it live until it dies?

Question:

Like Kylie said, I think unless you know it's got something terminal, then take the effort to heal it or treat it. Something like droopsy is basically untreatable, though there are rare cases some treatments turned it around, more often then not, thats a terminal affliction. I see many jokes in here, and though I did smile, this should be a more serious question. It really doesn't make that much of a difference being this is a fish or not to be honest. To listen to lifeisshort, and just say it's an f'ing fish and flush it, number one shows a total lack of education that that's not even a humane way to deal with a dead body let alone a live fish. I take thier advice pretty much the way I deal with my garbage, take one whiff of that, and wow, it's time to take that smelly stuff out.

If you consider, you bought your fish by choice. They didn't call you up or come knocking on your door asking you to take care of them, you choose them. Whether it's a dog, cat, horse, pig, or fish, doesn't much matter. Becasue you elected to care for them, you have a certain amount of responsibility to taking proper care of them. To me I'd say that you are asking what do you do if your fish is going to die, means you do care at least more then some others in here about the pets you keep. Clove oil, if you really have to do it, would be considered the most approved method of putting down a fish if you had to do this. I know there are some conditions you just can't fix so it does happen.

neither, you treat it.

if there is NO possible way to save it and you've tried everything, then humanely euthanize it. this is only possible if you use clove oil.
regardless of what it is, if it is that sick - you euth it & don't let it suffer to death.
I have heard that you should put them in the freezer. I know this sounds horrible but they die at a certain temperature and fast. No suffering. That is what I was told.
I believe that if a vet says they have no chance of survival.getting them out of their pain should be the only option but I have seen a fish in an aquarium look it is dying only to see that he fully recovered and still is swimming in the tank till today..
Try treating it first. If it looks like it is ready to die, put it down. When I put mine down, I used a hammer (I know it sounds horrible, but it is instant)
are you kidding me?

is this a serious question?

ITS A FU*KING FISH FOR GOODNESS SAKE!!

just flush the damn thing
Hey Jim what should I do with my dying fish?

I bet Chun's Chinese Restaurant would love to buy it from you! Probably offer about $10 for it.

Shoots! You heard that Mr. Fishy, you've got a new owner.
If the fish is dying, yes put it down. I know many people would dump chemical after chemical in the tank to save the fish but its just not natural.

Depending on the size of fish; i put them in a paper cup, fill it willed with cold water, after the fish is in I top it off with ice.

The fish will slowly go to sleep and die. Kind of like we do if left in the freezing snow to long.
Don't be cheap; do the right thing and call a vet. You are not qualified to make that judgment and it is his RIGHT BY LAW to receive proper medical attention. And don't do the drastic things suggested here; you could cause more suffering.

CALL THE VET or EMERGENCY VET.
Unless it looks like the fish is actually suffereing.. let them live out their life to the fullest. then flush the dead body.
You fry it up and have yourself some din-din.
for some reason placing them in a small bowl with some water from their tank and then adding a pinch of salt seems to perk fish up. i don't know why, or who i heard it from, but it's worked at least ten times for me. if it doesn't seem to be working after 10-15 mins, try gently holding him between your thumb and forefinger and slowly moving him back and forth in the water, so more water will circulate through his gills.
If you are sure it is dying, you should euthanize it. Do this by adding clove oil to his tank. Do not freeze your fish.
you know, when it boils right down to it, their just fish ,and they like us, have an expiration date just kill it if its untreatable. a quick way that i do it when im culling my fry is i take them out and leave them in the net on a hard surface and flick my finger as hard as i can on their head and thats a rap
If you really feel for this fish and have a bond with it try to treat it, if there is no way it could live, dont use clove oil, go to this website they have a euthanizing formula.
