Question:Okay, I have 2.8 gallon tank with 3 fake figurine plants. You know, just displays..I also have a filter.
I am planning to get 3 female bettas in that tank, but confused at what people say to me.
My friend owns bettas and he says that 3 bettas will do in a tank.
Then some people say it wont work.
So I am concerned. I really dont want to make a mistake.
Right now, I cant afforf to buy a 5 gallon right now so if I can get some advise I'd gladly appreciate it. Thanks.

More myths flying around. Female and male Betta's aren't serial killers!! They don't kill everything they come across. Female Betta's will do fine together but not in that size tank. The more space you give them to swim the more they will thrive. You should only house one Betta in that tank. It is way to small to house 3. You will also have to purchase a heater set between 78-82 F if you are going to keep a Betta in there. Betta's are tropical fish and will thrive in warmer water.
I would save the money you are going to spend for 3 females and purchase a bigger tank if you are set on buying females. You can purchase a 10 gallon starter kit for $30 at walmart and then you would need to purchase a heater seperate. Then after that is set up get your fish. Also females will do much better with 5 or more in a tank so they can establish a pecking order, if this doesn't occur one female can be killed due to being stressed out by the alpha betta.
bettas will kill each other. don't put them together. one per tank.
the bettas wont kill each other if they where born and never were sepurated. so they are born in the same tank and never sepurated no but if yes or not family then they will kill. email magicman116
female bettas are okay to be in a 2.8 gallon tank... with enough filtration and areation, that will do... =) also, i would greatly recommend a good level condition of your tank...=)
female bettas are good to keep even in one tank.. male bettas are the ones that do really fight...=)
enjoy and good luck=)
that's too small for female bettas.
females aren't as vicious as males, but still pack a lot of attitude.
it's recommended to keep them in groups of 4 or more so they can work out their pecking order, any less you risk one being singled out and bullied.
and in no less than 10 US gallons, with lots of hidey places. some girls can be more territorial, some can be very laid back.
in a 2.8 gallon i would keep a single betta only.
Female bettas will fight just as the males. In my opinon, I would not put any more than one betta in a tank this small, and that is pushing it. The more room a fish has to swim, the healther the fish is. A heater is also recommended for bettas, even though they can live in water temps as low at 65 deg F, they are much healther in temps between 72-80 degs. They are more active and their colours are way more brilliant.
I would just go with the one betta. If you happen to get a larger tank, then you could get more community fish to keep the betta company.
Also, with a tank that small, you really should do at least weekly water changes of at least 25%. I would recommend by weekly. The cleaner the water the happier the fish. Waste and toxins will build up quickly in that small amount of water. The worse being NH3 (ammonia).
good luck.

If you live near Asheville NC..I will give you a 10 gallon aquarium. General rule, one inch of fish per gallon of water, so if ya' wanna' try..then go ahead. Just 'top off" the water, often..like maybe a few cups every few days.
