I've never heard of a sphere fish, but there a good chance that whatever you had (if not a severely stressed puffer) had an internal infection that caused severe bloating, and the infected structure ruptured.
If this is the case, any other fish you might have in the tank would be exposed to the same pathogen. I'd isolate them in another tank of new water (or any container you can put them in temporarily) and do a good cleaning of the tank and contents.
Some stores have a limited guarantee on their fish, so I would take the fish back (with the receipt) and let the store manager know what happened. And I wouoldn't be getting any more fish from there in the future!
If what you bought was a puffer, it may have been handled improperly whenyou purchased it or when it was moved into the tank - puffers shouldn't be netted, but moved in containers of water - if they puff while exposed to air, they may not be able to expel the air again and die, but I never heard of one exploding.
was it a puffer fish? If so, then it had too much air trapped in it. Next time you get one, put on some rubber gloves, hold the fish by the tail, head pointing up, and gently shake the fish. This will make it release the air it has sucked in. Then leave it alone for a while (so that it doesn't get scared and puff again).

The Puffer (Also known as a sphere fish) Probably got scared and puffed up. when they puff up they suck in water, which doesn't harm them as much as when they suck air. When they suck in air instead of water it is extremely dangerous for the fish and is often deadly to the poor fish.
