Yes, live plants would help and so would good aeration! Make sure you have some if you have no filter eg. airstone(s) with a pump. I would do water changes a little more often in this case, like 30% every 4 days or maybe 50% a week, but I would not go any longer than a week. I do recomend that you get a new filter as soon as you can. It is really a staple piece of equipment for a healthy aquarium!
OK, then get yourself some live plants. They will help by consuming some of the waste product left by your fish.
Remember to feed your fish SMALL amounts of food every day, and then change out 20% of the water once a week.
Save up and get a small filter, as this is important.
If you mean the filter that provides a supply of air not long.
You cannot go long without a filter no matter how well you clean the tank and keep the water in good, healthy parameters because the filter not only filters the water, it provides life-giving oxygen that the fish need to survive. I have seen fish die in less than 24 hours without oxygen. You need to keep oxygen in the water. If you cannot afford a filter, go buy an inexpensive little water pump. It's better than nothing. If you can't afford that, you can aerate the water by scooping out water with a bucket, pitcher, etc. and pouring it back in from a height, similar to a waterfall. This, of course, will not keep the water aerated for long, and you will need to do it many times daily, but it will help. You need to get another filter as soon as possible if you want your fish to survive. Good luck.
Buy a new filter
Get a fllter asap. It's too big for NOT HAVING ONE.
