Question:my friend has a fish and when she fills its tank (its a tiny tank),it looks like the fish is drinking the water because everytime she fills its,and a day passes, some water dissapears.Whats up with the fish?
(and it doesnt have a hole in it or anything)
Answers:
hello, i believe the best answer would be evaporation. in such a tiny tank this will happen soon. the tank may have a small leak also check around the seams for water leakage. fish may ingest the water but that doesn't cause the water to disappear.
Easy...evaporation.The tank water is slowly turning into water vapour (sort of low-temperature steam).
Water evaporates in an open container. This is a natural thing. If lakes were not fed by rain, springs, or rivers they would eventually evaporate.
Make sure your friend does more than replace the missing water. It is important to replace a portion of the water in the tank to remove waste from the water. Even though a filter will remove a portion of the waste generated by the fish it is important to replace perhaps 25% of the water weekly to keep the fish in optimum health.
Make sure your friend reads up on this fish and finds out what the requirements are for keeping the fish healthy. Youmention the tank is small. It might be a good idea for your friend to buy a new or used larger tank for the health of the fish.
have them join a yahoo fish group. I suggest Uniquaria@yahoogroups, hundreds of experienced fish keepers, and it's free.
