There are all kinds of catfish, cichlids, and charachins that are under $15 that are strange and have bizarre behaviors.
if you have a big enough tank you could get a violet gobi wich are like 7 bucks at petsmart.

Black ghost knifefish. Order ONLINE and you get it for cheap (because I saw it at a pet store for 30 bucks). Also:Upside down catfish, elephant nose, or feshwater eels.

needlefish are cheap and oddballs, but they require alot of tankroom.
