Not knowing where you live and what the outdoor conditions are like, or even if you are bring fish in, Trout make wonderful pond fish for viewing. Palimino's, rainbows, brook, brown, spotted or even steel head or salmon are all great colorful fish. They also can remain outside during the winter months.

In your area, really any fish from the lakes or ponds can be kept however not all are very colorful. They can also survive the winter.
thats hrd, becauseour pond is enough gallons for one koi, ut no goldfish.

Try looking into sterlits or stugents. They will like a little bigger pond when they grow up, but they will be happy in 3000 gallons and look cool.
You can add a couple of albino channel catfish, rosey red minnows ( will get eaten but they have a bright orange color and are very cheap) gambuzi minnows they eat 3 times thier body weight a day in mosquito larva. You can even add regular channel cats and or bluegill just keep the numbers low. mabey 3 small channels and under 10 bluegill. The channels, and bluegill are good eaters and you will see them breaking the top of the water when you feed them. The are also very active. you will see them swimming around
