Question:My boyfriend got me a new fish for my tropical tank today. I cant take him back now and i already have guppies and neons in my tank. The pictus doesnt seem interested at all at the moment. Will he definatly eat them eventually? I have another tank i can set up for the neons and guppies but hoping it wont have to come to that.
Answers:
He might not be interested at the moment, but he will be once he settles in and it's lights out for the night. The pictuc will eat any fish it can catch and will fit in it's mouth and that will usually include neons and adult guppies.

My pictus never came close to even trying to hurt another fish in the aquarium. He just kinda chills in the back.
Any wide mouth catfish (p.pictus is one) will eat anything they can fit in their mouths. Take him back or move the others- or you will not have them for long!
Sorry.

PS: Pictus can grow to over 4.5 inches!
Yes. Russell, if your Pictus "just kinda hangs out in the back," he is unhappy or unhealthy. Pictus Cats are usually extremely active fish.
yes he will eat them later,.
That was one of my favourites when I started keeping catfish..two to three inches long with polka dots and long twitching whiskers. It should'nt eat the others but it might disturb them if it swims amongst them.
When he is fully grown, you will definitely lose some Guppies and Neons. If the Pictus can fit it in its mouth, he will eat them.
And, Pictus Cats get about 8-10 inches long and require a 20+ gallon tank. They are very active and may hurt themselves in small tanks.

Only if they are dead
