My betta would eat two or three flakes twice a day. If you put too much in and they don't eat it, it falls to the bottom and starts polluting the water. Watch to see how many flakes are eaten, then skim off the rest if it's too much. The corner of a folded kleenex works good.
With these fish they're very good at following people's fingers and movement. You'll know it's hungry by how intense they watch you. Mine was kept in a small bowl at work for 4 years, she would watch people go by (they thought it was eerie, but she had good eyes). I brought her home when they said they were spraying the building for insect infestation (spiders everywhere!!), and kept her there after that in the big tank.
Feeding twice a day was fine for mine. Check yours to see how often they want to eat, but don't let uneaten food sit there more than 5 minutes.

Usually it is as much as he can eat in 10 minutes. The amount depends on how large your fish is. You can give it all at once or do like I do and give it in two feedings of the amount my fish can eat in 5 minutes. Gives him breakfast and supper.. Either way it isn't a lot..lol
Feed your fish as much as he or she can eat within several minutes. Do this twice a day, everyday while doing 25% water changes every week and your Betta will live a happy life.
