My neon tetra seems to be sick?

Question:I've only had him a few weeks and he's acting wierd: not eating, losing his colour, looking dull and generally staying on his own in the same place in the tank. All of the other neons and other fish are fine. I think he's dying. Is there anything I can do to save him?

Answers:
put him in another aquarium with oxygen in case he is carrying a disease and wouldn't want other fish infected. I found a site describing the same symptoms like what you have described.. unfortunately, no treatment can be done. It's called neon tetra disease or pleistophra. It's a slow killing disease. It's named after the breed because it's a common thing among tetras. Read the information on the site.

Sorry about the fish

Chk out whats making him sick....
Theres a liqiud available for increasing the mortality....buy it do as it says in its label
could be your neon tetra is/has laid eggs?
also these fish are so small, anything else is
a danger to them inside the tank
they are so fragile and easy for other bigger fish to eat
and thats what usually happens
but not always
Neons are not very hardy... they also don't tolerate poor water conditions. You MUST do bi-weekly water changes of 25%. Better yet, weekly water changes of 20%. This will be good for all your fish. Use a gravel vac.
If it is sick, it may be treatable. Not enough info from you to even guess what's going on.

My advice is just to take him out of the tank, put him into a food/freezer bag with no water and put him in the bin. This is a quick death as it sounds like he is suffering and if he is diseased it will prevent any other fish being infected. DO NOT FLUSH HIM as this could spread any diseases over to river fish.
it sounds harsh but if he is suffering its the best thing to do, and neon tetras are one of the cheapest tropical fish anyway
Is it the blue stripe or red stripe that's losing color? If it's the blue stripe, then I think it's Neon Tetra Disease (I'm not kidding).

There's a website about Neon Tetra Disease. There is no cure for it, so place it in a quarantine tank and let it die naturally and peacefully.
