I'm afraid that you are going to have a difficult time selling a 10 gallon aquarium with an old, mismatched hood for $50. If it was very clean, had a matching hood, good filter and heater, a nice siphon, none of which were very old, you MIGHT be able to get $50. People want to do their own decorating, so usually, decorations are not even wanted. I'm a little surprised at your brother also. Maybe people are different, but in my family, we GIVE each other things when we don't need or want them anymore. I have a $5,000 teak table that my parents GAVE me when they bought a new table. They didn't sell it to me. My computer, dvd player, television and a few other things, all GIVEN to me, no charge, by family members. A car I can see selling to family. Or I could see selling a custom set up 1,000 gallon saltwater aquarium to family, but not a 49 gallon aquarium. Anyway, that's my view on things.
good quality filter, nice attractive rocks(ornaments) and gravel to go with, 2-3 fake plants, water additives like:
1. prime by seachem to dechlorinate, etc. tapwater
2. stability by seachem
3. melafix
4. pimafix?
5. some medications that treat ick(ich), parasites, fungus etc
6. magfloat cleaner
7. a vaccum for water changes
thats what i would consider like over 50$! but i greeeat deal for 50, i know its a lot but you def. dont have to get all that those are just examples of what you could get for it. :] good luck finding money.
