Dropped the open can of fish flakes in the tank and all the food has gone to the bottom of the tank ..?

Question:and my three gold fish is are eating non-stop.. do u think this will kill them?? and should I stop feeding them for a couple of days? it was a 40oz can half full.

Answers:
thats way to much, i would use the net and remove the food fast.

while goldfish arent like angelfish which can eat themselves to death, it will be bd for the bowels. so i would skip feeding for a few days and allow the bowel to run normally.

Start siphoning the food out as it will rot and cause the fish to get very sick. Then change some water.
Use a gravel vacuum to get it out, it will cause ammonia to sky rocket and potentially kill your fish, your also in danger of over feeding your goldfish which might not kill your goldfish but lead to health problems.
siphon it out and get it out the rest with the net you should probley skip one day feeding day and check your water
The risk is in constipating the goldfish. You already will have a pollution problem in your tank and need to do extra cleanings for the next couple of days (the fish will excrete what they have consumed). Keep an eye on your fish to make sure the amount they have eaten actually passes through them. You also might want to give them a couple of thawed frozen peas (take the shell off first) to help prevent constipation.

The problem when goldfish get constipation is that it can effect their swimbladder. So try to avoid the problem before it happens. Peas tend to help things "move" through the goldfish easier.

So yes, clean up the extra food that you can. Then give a couple of peas preferably tonight. Keep an eye on all of them and make sure they pass out what they have scarfed down. And you will need to do extra cleaning due to the spill and the excrement.
