Question:would a german ram cichlid go good in a 5 gallon with some guppys?
Answers:
I wouldn't suggest it. While Blue rams can do fine in a 5 gallon and guppies can do fine in a 5 gallon, it really would be a bit much to put both in a 5 unless it's only one of each.
MM
No.
Chichlids should not be mixed with other fish. I have not owned them bc of this. Also, chichlids are large for a 5 gallon aquarium. I wouldn't suggest it. Try some tetras or neons instead.
No...fish eat fish...cichlids are very aggressive and will kill other fish when put in a small tank...how about FANTAIL GOLDFISH..pretty..and dont need a heater..even in the winter..
A cichlid will attack and eat your guppies. You cannot put any kind of cichlid in with a community fish. If the cichlid is going to be your only fish, he may be fine in a 5 gallon tank, but it's still not reccomended. You need a gallon of water per inch of fish, and that does not include any swimming space taken over by ornaments, filters or air pumps.
Get a bigger tank and lose the guppies.
rams are kind of sensitive and a best in small shoals of rams.
the water parameters in a 5 gallon can go crazy in a short time so anything other than really hardy fish like bettas and white cloud mountain minnows won't survive very long. if you have guppies already i would just add another guppy or two (i don't know how many you have but dont' over-do it) and some ghost shrimp. ghost shrimp are great additions to small tanks.
I wouldn't put a ram in anything less than a ten gallon. They do need a little room to swim and be happy. They are rather sensative fish, and wouldn't like the small volume of water either. They are just fine with community fish if the tank is big enough. They are one of the more peaceful cichlids, I have four in a 75 gallon and they don't bother any of the other fish in the tank, including other cichlids and small schooling fish such as rasboras and tetras. They would certainly eat any guppy fry they come across, but they should leave the adults alone.
You're right the 1inch rule is bs
But any cichlid needs at least a 20 gallon tank
here is a discription of a blue ram and his needs

I think the main reason for that is that you need to have lots of hiding space like caves for cichlids and swimroom for them to be happy
And they are not compatible with guppys
Hope that helps
Good luck
