it was obviously born in the opposite hemisphere as you. try teaching it to swim right in the toilet. make sure you put a screen in the bottom so when you flush it doesn't go down. oh you have to put water conditioner in the tank -- don't forget that part.
Maybe they are from south of the equator and have delusions of being flushed down the toilet. I wasn't aware of a specific direction any fish was supposed to follow.
I can only assume you mean upside down, not backwards. He has an air bladder problem. Defrost and SHELL one frozen pea and feed it to him, crushed between your fingers. Do this 2-3 times a day until he swims upright again. If you don't take the shell off he can't eat it.

In case you haven't heard. It has recently been said that gold fish bowls are BAD. Because they distort the out side world and offer very few if any place for a stressful fish to hide. So you may try a larger home with some were your fish can be alone to relax.
If he is not floating to the top then he is ok. He may just need a bigger bowl.
Most likely he is peed off because you stuck him in such a small space and he is swimming in it's own urine and poo. Yuck. Buy a larger tank or clean out it's bowl very often. Any kind of fish will act strange when ammonia level rises.
The problem is the bowl. Goldfish cannot live successfully in bowls. Change all of the water twice a day until you can get him a suitable home like a 20 gallon tank with filter, airator and heater. Bowls are torture chambers for goldfish.
