Question:I want to breed bettas. My female is already full with eggs and is displaying vertical stripes. The female and male both flare with each other. The problem is that the male doesn't build a bubble nest. I have no filters and I make about a 25% of water change everyday. My tank is bare from the bottom and I have the foam cup cut in half so my male can build the nest in it.How can I make my male build a bubblenest? Or does he really need one?
Answers:
How big is your spawning tank? It needs to be a 10g 1/2 full of water...all else looks ok.
Your male does not need to build a bubble nest before he spawns. If they are ready, then let them spawn, he will build a nest as the eggs are dropped. My pride and joy Rover never built a nest before he spawned, and never kept a good one for the fry, but all his fry were healthy.
Do you have food ready for the fry? I made that mistake when I first started breeding them. Get a culture of microworms started before they spawn.
No. he don't need to build the nest, as sometimes the male will still guard the eggs. See
http://www.aquarticles.com/articles/bree... it may help you finish the mating process.
If the male has not built a bubble nest then take the female out. Until he builds the put her in. In google put in Betta breading ant it will tell you all you need to know. As a breeder I wish you luck!
