Question:my beautiful betta has not been eating for one week now.
he is lethargic and i saw a light brown thing(very thin) attached to his lower body. what is that? i don't know what to do. i don't want him to suffer . i called petco where i bought him and they said to wait a couple of days before i get medicine. i hate seeing him suffer. he was so full of zest and playful, makes me really sad. i love the guy!

From your description, I'd tend to agree with the person at Petco. This sounds like a simple case of constipation and one of the cures is, in fact, time. I'd go further by recommending you monitor the fish for a secondary illness while withholding food for a few days. The Betta will be just fine with the 'fasting period'. If you see no improvement in a few days, feed Betta 1 thawed and smashed pea with the skin removed. This will act as a laxative. If Betta's condition seems to be worsening, or is showing different signs of illness (Anything unusual) repost with new information, and we will try to advise further.

the brown stuff is probly just poop and he probly is not eating because he has a stomah ache and is trying to digest but just in case get some meds. and give it to him better to be safe then sorry.
