Question:My female just gave birth 2 days ago, to 2 puppies. One of the puppies is very tiny and has just started making a clicking type noise when breathing. Both puppies are very active and eating well. I have called my vet and am waiting for a call back from her. Before I get any rude remarks, I am keeping the puppies and will be getting the mom and the puppies fixed as soon as my vet, tells me that they can be fixed. While I'm waiting for the vet to call me back, I was just wondering if anyone has ever experienced this problem with their puppies, and if you can give me an idea of what it is.
Answers:
Could it be the sound of the puppy suckling? Like human babies do.
probably an upper respitory infection, if its anything at all. its common in puppies and kittens, some antibiotics will clear it up easily.
not sure on the clicking noise, but there is usually a runt in every litter, no matter how small a litter. i would think as long as the little one is breathing ok & eating ok, everything shuld be fine. good idea to see what the vet has to say though.
Sometimes fluids are trapped in the lungs from the birthing process-they could be working their way out. Good idea to get to the vet though, it could be serious(a.e. a foreign object somehow lodged in the pups airway) problem. best of luck with your new pups.
Are they from South Africa?
Wipe it's nose with a moist washcloth to be sure the nasal passages are clear. The clicking noise means your pup needs water/milk. As your pup plays and gets warm, they pant and that dries out their little passageways. The little ones get dry fast, clicking is a real good indicator of thirst or even dehydration.
it sounds like a "respitory click" which can be a respitory infection -- she needs to go to the vet -- the phone call isn't good enough. . .plus infections are contagious and the others may need to be treated as well. . .
when the vet calls -- just make an appt.
