HI, This is the number one question Dog Owners always ask me. How to Housebreak their dogs.
You have to understand the basics. What goes in must come out and you have to know when that is. You have to put your pet on a schedule.
Sit down and make a list of times your going to feed and water them. Make sure you give enough time for them to consumpe both.
An example would be when you get up in the morning take them out then bring them in and feed, water. leave it down for about 30 minutes. Then take them out agian. If their puppies your going to have to do this several times aday. But do this atleast 3 times aday and give a little water in between the feeding. That's right, you have to pick the water up too.
You don't have to leave water down all the time if their in a controlled eviroment like a house. Outside is different. But once the food and wtaer is down for 30 miutes, pick both up.
Write down the times your going to do this, plus the times you take them out. Stick with it. If they have anaccident in the house. DON"T yell at them, just writhe down the time and see if there's a trend of going that time of a several day period. If there is, adjust the schedule to make sure they go out at that time.
Some Dogs are very hard to housebreak, but with a schedule, atleast they will know when their going to be feed and taken out.
If your going out, crate them and then when you return just continue on with the schedule. If you have any other questions. Feel free to email me.
Best wishes
When ever you clean up the pee, make sure the chemicals in the cleaning wipes or spray doesnt have ammonium in it because theyre pee has ammonium in it,so when the smell it, they end up peeing! My puppy did that constantly!! Believe me I know!
I started with puppy pads bought at a pet store, after a week I put some torn up grass on it to get her associated with peeing/pooping outside, then I put some of her fecal matter on it. Tada, business outside. Also, puppies have small bladders and need to urinate very often; as soon as they wake (every time) and often throughout the day. If all else fails, buy a kennel, put her in it, and only let her out to play, eat, & pee/poop because dogs generally don't do their business where they sleep.
get a cage for the puppy to sleep in and call it it's bed put it by the door then when you get up in the morning pick the puppy up and take it right outside to potty. also you can get the plug in at dr. fosters and smith and it supposed to help stop that.
Frist of all,no water after 6.00pm.Now my pup goes out every 2 hours. If not they have a spray, which keeps them pee where their not suppose to.Find a Petco store.
Wake your dog up at the same time every morning to go to the bathroom. Then again in the middle of the day. And again at the end of the day. Do this for two weeks and then on the last day take him to the door to put him outside but instead of puting him outside, just stand there. If he needs to pee, then he will do something to show you he needs to pee and that is what you need to take as his signal to go pee. If he just pees right in front of you than put him outside and repeat this for a few more days.
You have to catch him b4 he pees, the best way is to pay attention to him,, when U notice him walking back and forth looking for a place to pee, grab him put on his chain and outside he goes,,when he pees outside, reward him with "Good Boy or Girl" pet him and let him know he did good. When he pees inside, hit him with rolled up newspaper or spray him with a water bottle , put his face in his own pee, and tell him "Bad Dog" eventually if you do this enough, he will Wise up and stop peeing in the house for one or two reasons,, he's tired of having his hiney beat or he's tired of smelling his own pee, and if U R consistent in the training he will definitely stop..
is your puppy a male or female? if its a female, I find that if they are really warm between the back legs, then they have to go. also if they play lots, I find that it is wise to stop the play and take them outside. mine is currently being trained as well and it is going great, she plays lots, and has to stop to go. if she is just waking up, take her outside right away. they do not go pee and poo at the same time. it takes them a while. if she/he is sniffing around too much and not interested in a toy at all then they have to go. http://www.ddfl.org/behavior/pup-housetr...
try that site. it has good information on house training.
Get a crate. Never use it as punishment always make the crate a nice place to be. Make sure he can't move around too much in the crate because if he has too much room he will just go potty in one area of the crate and this will not work.
You must take him out, and if he does not go potty outside when you come back inside you must watch him every second. If he doesn't pee outside, then if you can't watch him bring him in and put him in his crate. Never leave him unattended outside that crate.
Soon he will love his crate like it's his bed and he won't want to pee in it.
Another effective tool is to put your dog on a lead. Tie the lead to your waist. This way if the dog gets up to walk away from you to pee. Usually a dog isn't going to urinate right infront of you it always seems to be when you have your back turned. haha
If you have him tied to your waist, you will know when he tries to get up to go potty, and then you can take him outside.
I like the crate method much better. Crate training has never failed me. It is not cruel. If you can't afford a good metal crate then try the leash method.
Again, don't leave him unattended at any time.
Use pee pads.
Or take your dog outside every morning and stay outside until the dog goes to the bathroom. Then do that again at night before bed. If you keep up this routine, soon your dog will understand what to do when it has to go.
