My dog ate spoiled ham, what should i do?

Question:my dog ( chihuahua mix) ate spoiled ham. she vomited several times. she looks fat and has been drinking plenty of water. what should i do? should i wait to see how she's tomorrow morning or take her to the vet immediately?

also, what can i do ? since, she always goes directly to the trash and looks what she finds and takes everything out whenever i let her into the house. i've caught her in the act several times and tell her "NO" and take her outside but she just repeats the act .

any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

It does sound like you should have her checked out. Immediately if even water won't stay down. She could get pancreatitis from something like that, or an intestinal obstruction, and both are deadly serious. Get a heavy covered trash can, or put the trash can in a cupboard with a baby-proof latch on it. Or put a mousetrap (or other loud noisemaker) on top of the garbage, so she gets a good scare insted of a tasty treat.

Dogs are NOT people, ignore the post about "oatmeal and castor oil" and consult the vet.

Take him to the vet, it doesn't look like your dog is acting normal, well it doesn't really look like it's behaving correctly. Well try to feed it good food from store and when you throw away your trash have a trash bin that's out of your dogs reach.
first you need to spank her and tell her no.duh.next use a squirt botle they repond to this. its proven. on the ham part if the dog has vomited all of it...your fine...dogs bodies can eat things raw and spoiled they have different enzymes than we do they are not our equals.dont treat it like a human it is a dog, they dont need there food cooked...
duh
If it was me, I would give her plenty of fiber rich food, maybe a bowl of oatmeal laced with some castor oil, to move it on through as quickly as possible. Make sure she is well-hydrated because inducing diarrhea will be dehydrating. Keep her as comfortable as you can if she is outdoors, in an area that is safe, clean, and easy to supervise her. It may be better to have her inside. Put up anything that could make her sicker...hide the trash and other wastebaskets, toilet seat down, etc since she is in a compromised immune system right now. Of course you will probably have some accidents in the house if you load her up with laxative type foods. You have to be sweet to her even if you are mad that she is crapping everywhere, she can't help it and you don't want her little self-esteem to be damaged by abusing her for inconveniencing you! I know it's corny but I'm serious, too :)

In the future, you need to doggy proof the house when she is inside, as well as making her outdoor spaces safe to explore as well. This means secure lids on garbage cans inside and out, and maybe seal up rotted foods in a zipper bag, etc so she can't sniff out things that will make her sick. Of course as a dog, you will have to protect her from her own curiosity, just like a child. You can keep her from seeking out food by making sure that she always has plenty of fresh food in the same place. Another way to take care of garbage containers...make them very unattractive to dogs...is to clean them with ammonia. These things and more training should keep her out of the most dangerous places.

After she is crapped out, you can relieve her diarrhea by introducing elements of the BRAT diet, just like people. The BRAT diet is Bananas, Rice, Apples, and Toast, breads/toasts, and rice of which are appropriate and natural for dogs to eat, and should be mixed in her dog food. Avoid dairy foods as well as gravies or wet dog foods. The BRAT foods are good for binding up the stools so she will have control again. You can expect that if she was housebroken in the past, she will stop making doodles (and splatter art!!) in the wrong places after the diarrhea is gone.
I would call your vet and ask for advice, it is no longer recomended to induce vomiting so if she has finished vomiting then just make sure she has access to water, try giving her some charcoal as this absorbs poisons, etc but I think she will be fine however it's better to be safe than sorry sop just give your vet a call and ask advice. Get a higher bin or one that closes firmly to stop her doing this again
If she vomited several times and is drinking well, just watch her for a while.
She has cleaned herself out, and will probably get over it on her own.
Dogs can handle spoiled food better than we can.
