Question:I have a 20lbs dog I have been babysitting for 5 months. The owner is a crackhead whore, and won't pick up the dog. She also has other stuff at my house. She used to be a good neighbor before the crack entered her life. Now she is nowhere to be found.I wont take the dog to the pound. that is too inhumaine, since they will just kill him. So I feed the dog 2 to 3 tablesspoons of pure COCOA each day mixed into his food. This does nothing. It doesn't make him sick. I need to put this dog down. (Just like a horse,) but I dont want him to suffer. So I think, Chocolate is the best way, it taste great to the dog and the dog doesn't know anything is wrong. The owner owes me about $1.000.00 (one thousand dollars) because of the dog, and the stuff she has in storage. Now, my home is infested with fleas and Because of the hurricane Katrina, I cant work or afford to bomb house. So I think get rid of the dog to get rid of the fleas. Whats the right dosage to put him down?

Are you joking? You have to be the biggest sadist on the face of the planet. The local Humane society would NOT necessarily euthanize the dog -you can leave him/her with them as he has been abandoned.But slowly poisoning an animal and causing a slow degenerative death is just cruel and sick.Take out your frustration somewhere else, the dog did not do anything to you personally. 06/09/06- you really know nothing do you-you are very misguided-if the dog is suffering then euthanizing it(not putting it to sleep) is the best way to go,all the pet feels is the pinprick of a needle then is asleep then overdosed on the inject-able medicine.And by the way cowboy many normal people have there horses and cows treated the same way.By the way I checked at work , you are not doing anything to that dog , so you are not putting him out of any misery or anything.Take him to the vet and hey guess what show compassion and stay with him during the procedure so he knows someone cares!

You are offering the dog a slow painful death - which is suffering.
Let a veterinarian euthanize the dog humanely - it is fast and painless. Essentially the dog is given an overdose of heavy sedatives - it goes to sleep, slips into unconsciousness, and finally the heart stops beating - all in about 20 seconds.
Pay the vet, sell her stuff, and call it a lesson learned.

Chocolate may or may not kill a dog. My dog ate over three pounds of chocolate one Easter and is still live and well. Killing a dog by something like chocolate is sooooo inhumane. Why do you think chocolate kills dogs? Because it will cause their stomach acids problems and then make them eat themselves from the inside out. Does that sound humane to you? If the dog is dying, habing it put down is the most humane thing you can do. It ends the suffering immediately, the dog feels no pain and your problem is solved. While I don't agree with your method, it's not my place to judge you. If the dog has a disease and is destined for death, maybe you can ask a vet to come to your home to put the dog down.
It will be much quicker and more humane than killing the dog a little at a time.
Is the dog absolutely terminal or is it an illness that the cost of treatment makes it out of your reach? If the latter is true, maybe you could find a rescue group who'd be willing to adopt the dog and get the necessary treatment for it.

I'm sorry you have so much hate.I had to have on of my pet put down. she was poisoned.This was the hardest things I've ever had to do.I went into the vets office with her.I lay down with her while they gave her the shot .It only took a few seconds.At least she knew I loved her and I helped make her death a little easier. feeding the dog chocolate is probably hurting him more than helping him, even if you think you are doing the right thing. you are slowly poisoning him, how is that any kinder or humane than allowing him to be humanely euthanized at a vet's office? the shot allows him to drift off into a sleep he won't wake up from and is much better than just killing him like you are doing. he won't suffer from it and it is a lot kinder than your idea.

Besides the fact that you are now considered the owner of that dog by law, having taken care of it (and I use 'care' loosely)for the length of time that you have. just put papers out on community boards (grocery store, laundry mat, and gas stations) Saying free dog, description of the dog and someone will see it and might just give it a good home. You need to take the dog to the humane shelter if you are trying to kill it anyway. You are the one who is being inhumane.
You're right someone needs to come take that dog away from you. What you're doing is inhumane and will cause the dog great suffereing before his death. Being put down by a licensed vet is much more humane. He won't feel any pain.

Please don't take this matter into your hands. This dog is living because it believes you care and love him. If you really don't want this dog to live, you may take him to a vet and pay to have him put down if he is truly disabled and suffering like you say. you could try to put up fliers, like at vet offices or at your spca, and say you have a dog that needs a good home, and you'll give them the dog for free. or put an ad in the paper saying, good dog free to good person, something like that. there are also no kill shelters you can look up on the web.

First take the dog to the Vet let them put the dog to sleep in a humane way pain free because the dog is suffering and is in pain from you this is very cruel, you should not be taking your problems out on this dog not the dogs fault because you and the dogs owner had a falling out that is you'll problem you agreed to take the dog now do the humane thing take the dog to the vets.
I suggest to you personally do not ever in your whole entire life adopt a pet you are such a cruel person, a person like you with what you are doing would be punished by law for animal cruelty you are the worse person the owner could entrust her dog to.

As other readers stated how do you know the state of the animal anyway if you can't take the tiime to take it to a vet or even CALL for help from the many organizations in this world to assist with animals. Chocolate, over time is going to give this dog the runs and severe stomach problems. I would suggest taking the dog in to be euthenized. You can stay with him til the end. It is very humane today. I worked in a vet clinic and you could explain the situation you are in and maybe they can give you a price break. I wouldn't mention to the vet about the chocolate. I know you think you are doing whats best, but really its not going to work that way.
