Question:I'm dog sitting my parent's dog. He's 13 years old but still plays with a ball and runs around like a pup outside. He does sleep a lot though. I was just wondering how long they usually live.

Hi! On average, bigger sized dogs live to around 10-12 years, and smaller dogs (like shih-tzus) live till 12-14. This isn't a rule, of course, because I have heard of old dogs of about 18 and so. But, in general, it would be around 12-14. Hope I helped xx

That kind of thing is too hard for anyone to really say. WIth all the overbreeding and poor quality of breeding and estimated 15-17 yr old dog may only live half the time. However; with all the newer information and medical advice from vets a dog estimated to live 10-12 yrs may live 20.
I have a dog I rescued two years ago that we treated for severe Heartworms and then she was still given only about six months to live and 2 and a half years later she is still kicking. Im always scared but she is stil with us.
