Question:I was lead to believe that my dog would be tick and flea free wheh I picked him up from the vets office. When I got him he stil had ticks all over him. I let them know this and they told me that they would fall eventually and that they would fall dead. Well they dont fall dead and it's been 3 days. They told me that the dip would protect him for about 5 days which gives me enough time to treat the house and treat the outside as well and also get him some frontline. I was also told by the vet to add the frontline on a clean dog not one that already has ticks and fleas. Should I wait another week to dip him myself with Adam dip or should I go ahead and add the Frontline on him. Does frontline really kill the ticks and fleas or do they just jump off still alive?
Anyone know how Adams Dip works and if I can use it in a spray bottle. Or do I actually have to "DIP" him?
Answers:
actually what they used to do as far as dip is now outlawed in most states and also in most states they use a natural citrus shampoo because those chemicals are not only harmful for the dog but for the enviornment.
the best thing to do is to use frontline. its very safe and lasts (depending on the type you buy) between a month or 3 months. it ranges from 28 to 70 dollars to purchase but it's well worth it. you put it on behind the neck and it really does work and very well.
you can find it online or at the vet or even at some groomers
good luck
most of been a mild bath should work really good unless your house is infested
giv it time
Frontline really does kill the bugs, and is commonly used as a flea treatment. It's fine to put it on a dog that is already infested. Just read the directions on the box.
Usually a dip is applied using a rag, that is dipped in the bucket of chemical, and then rung out over the dog, so the chemical drips onto him.
You mentioned treating your house, and I'm glad. This is the most important step to getting rid of fleas. Vaccuum, do laundry, and use a spray or powder flea treatment on upholstery.
Often dips do not kill the ticks right away, it can take a while, and they don't always get all of the ticks, or fleas. Frontline or similar products (like revolution or advantix) are really the best choice.
Well, first off, if you picked your dog up from the vet's office and it still has ticks on him..there is a problem. I'd go back up to your vet and ask for a re-dip...for free.
I would check with your vet if its safe to use frontline now, its so easy to use & lasts a while.our puppy had flees & they fell of him sought of dazed he's been free ever since but it is an ongoing thing. & needs regular treatment.Id also spray his bedding with flee killer we used one that the flees carry & it kills any others they contact it was expensive but well worth it.
Dr.s Foster & Smith (drsfostersmith.com) have a product called Bio Spot that works the best (so far). It also smells better than the other brands. It's very safe, used it even while my Pitbull was raising a kitten. Make sure you toss the vaccuum bag, too. The kitten is 1 1/2 years old now and all my cats use the feline version. We have NO pests (unless you count skunks!). Don't give up.
They still do flea dips?! Yes, Frontline works GREAT! My dog has never had a problem as long as you keep it up.
