Dog spaying?

Question:will having a female dog spayed calm her down.

Answers:
yes it would

yes
Yes it would.
would you like to be spayed
well actually yes, because my vet told me that while shes in heat she can do crazy things. and i live in a townhouse so i have a desk. and he said if shes outside she might jump off my deck look ing for a male to mate with. but if shes spayed i doubt shell do that. and also it prevents against cancers that they can get if they dont get spayed.
I am not sure it will calm her down - but if you don't want pups definitely have it done. If your dog is a puppy or very young then it will be excitable - a bit like kids really, they calm down when the get older. However, good behaviour training should help and of course plenty of excercise. If my crazy cocker spaniel gets to hyper - he goes for an extra long walk and sleeps the rest of the day!
it doesnt always but its better for her
Yes, it will calm her down. The sooner you do it, the chance of her having cancer will decrease.
no, maturity calms a dog down but spaying will keep her healthier, she wont have that risk of false pregnancy which can cause pyometra which can be fatal to a dog
no it will not only for a few days while she is recovering from the surgery. these people are wrong. the dog will be the same until she grows up/ I am guessing you have a young dog. she will grow out of it spayed or not.
yes, only do it 3 months after her first season
Not necessarily, it depends on lots of other things. You should spay her anyway if youre not planning on having pups from her, but spaying is not a miracle cure for excitable behaviour although it can help in some dogs. You can have it done any time from 6 months old, you do not need to wait for her to have a season. If she does have a season first you need to wait until about halfway in between that season and when you would expect her next one.
I've had all of my female dogs spayed, and usually it has calmed them. With the urge to procreate out of the picture, most dogs settle down and become more owner-centered. I'm about to have my 6 1/2 month old pup spayed for that very reason.

Another reason spaying is good (particularly if you catch the dog before its first heat), it can prevent breast cancer later in life. My mom's poodle was spayed after having had one pup. She ended up with a huge tumor that penetrated the lung and eventually had to be put down.

So calming the temperament and preventing future sickness are good reasons to spay.
It will make life more enjoyable for all!
Thank you!
Usually it dose calm them down a little, but not a whole lot. If you want a clam dog I would suggest you try training her as well as having her spayed.
Not usually, but it will keep the unwanted dog population down!! Spaying her will also decrease the occurrence of mammary tumors & a host of other health problems at bay, as she gets older. Please, Please, Please Spay her!! Let dog breeding up to the knowledgeable breeders that know what they are doing!!
yes
Spaying is not an alternative to good training. If your female is young, she will calm down anyway when she matures. If you are not planning to breed, have her spayed, but wait until she is mature & has had her first season. Recent studies have shown that early spaying can & does have long term ill effects on some females, including an increased risk of bone cancer & incontinence.

no- the answer is get some help with proper training it will cost you, but if you love your pet you will find a well trained dog is a lot happier and you will not have to tell her off for not doing as she is told she will love you no matter what you do but this way makes it easier for you and for her
yes. letting have some puppys would calm her dow aswell
Yes & it will stop her from having false pregnancies which are very dangerous.I tried to get my girl spayed vet said she was over weight now it's too late has she is nearly 13 & has had 2
false pregnancies.
It will calm sexual behavior.
It may do
No - as others have said, maturity and good training will calm her down.

If you choose to have her spayed to prevent puppies that is fine. But both spaying and castration for behavioural reasons does not work.

There is also some controversy over early neutering - Some say this disrupts the dogs development both physically and psychologicaly. Remember at 6 months or before her first season your dog has not yet finished maturing.

The risk of incontinence has also been reported but there are some positive benefits as others have already mentioned.

Do your research and remember your vet will be making a tidy sum from the op - so will (s)he be a little biased do you think?

Good luck with whatever you feel is the right choice for you.
Yes it does calm them down , only do this if you are really sure that you do not want to breed your dog , also in some cases it can cause bladder weakness in some breeds of dog when they get older .
no but it is the best thing you can do for her will stop her having unwanted pups. Stop her having to stay in for up to 28 days when she is in season, and also stop her getting female type cancers
