Question:i am looking for a rescue that can take in my friends 9-10 mo old puppy, she has never been fought and would be a great pet , i cannot keep her and he is moving very soon

i wish i was in Tampa-- i would take her!! please do not take her to a shelter 9 out of 10 pits are put down and to the dumb a** that said we should genocide this breed-- do some research and you will be embarrassed-- the pit has never been bred to be people aggressive and our pits are a family dog-- during ww2 they were called the "nanny dog" because they watched after children so frequently--
I think the dog will have to go to a shelter. if there really are pit bull rescue organizations out there, they will be jammed.
You don't want to take that pup to just any shelter. A lot of shelters will euthanize pit bulls, EVEN if they are puppies, or have a wonderful temperament. Look on the websites I listed for you earlier, and contact some of the rescues. Ask them if they have room, or if they can find a foster home for the puppy. Just make sure he ends up in a no kill rescue organization that will adopt out pit bulls. Good luck with your friend's puppy. It's too bad he can't keep him.
I thought it was illegal to own a pitbull in Florida? I seen on animal planet a bunch were confinscated from a guy and all (even puppies) were put to sleep because they aren't allowed in that area.
I agree, PLEASE don't take your pup to an animal shelter. Just do a web search for Pit Bull Rescue Groups in Tampa, FL and see what comes up. They will take your dog and foster her in a home usually with other dogs, so that she will continue to be loved and get attention while she is looking for her forever home.

Whats up with the thumbs down? Do you buy pit bulls for a loving family pet? No, you buy them for the same reason people want lions and tigers and pythons for pets. Pit Bulls are known as the meanest, cruelest thing in a dog suit. Dogs have many looks and sizes because of selective breeding. A dog's natural matter of recognizing an alpha creature to be their boss has been largely lost in the creation of this breed. It has to dominate or die trying. It is not safe in any capacity, not even as a war dog. Who knows who the monster will attack.
Sweety, the history of dog attacks around Austin, Texas have been pit bull attacks. A woman was attacked and killed in her yard. She was chewed so badly that she looked more like hamburger than a human being. I read of a similar relentless attack in Tennessee,
GOOD LUCK! I live in Virginia Beach and have been looking for a place to take my dog for over a year now...I've finally accepted that he's part of the family and love him to pieces. Every shelter you can find will be full and not accepting new pups. People are over breeding Pitts and don't understand what a mess they are causing...they're just in it for the money. I personally found my dog "Jynx" on the side of the road and haven't been able to part with him since! The only way is to put him down, which I won't do.
