Does spaying/neutering a dog at a young age stunt its growth?

Question:

Answers:
No, it has the opposite effect. Dogs neutered before maturity tend to grow taller and remain more gangly. Early neutering has other adverse side effects which are not always pointed out to owners.

no but it does stop it trying to hump your leg!
No, not at all. It's actually better to get your dog spayed/neutered at a young age because it's less trouble for the dog and for males it prevents bad behavorial problems from developing.
No, not at all.
No it just makes them gain weight
no way!! who gave you that advice !! but it will calm them down alot !!
the youngest to spay/neuter is 6 months.
Um i dont think so My Lab/greatdane got nutered at 8 weeks old and is now about well when he sits down his head is at my waist and hes the biggest dog weve got and we dont have any small yappy dogs so you bee the judge and btw he is also the sweetest and gentelist
no, but my vet says no younger than 5 months. But let me warn you, my pup was PITIFUL! I felt really bad, he was so drugged up and shaking! But, the next day, he was almost his old self. He didn't want to leave my side for about a week though. But, it is better for them and you to get it done.
Good luck.
no, i think it's actually better to do it at a young age just to get it over with.
No, had both of my dogs done.Boy at 11 months, girl after her 1st season so she was about 9 months, both have grown normally. May have a slight tendency to gain weight but usually when they are older, so it is important they have correct diet and plenty of exercise. Talk to your vet.
i ahev never heard of it. my dog i adopted from a shleter was neutered at 2 months old and he is not stunted! LOL
Not that I've ever known, but they can have a tendency to gain weight a little more than the norm.
No i had my dogs neutered at five months old, They are cavalier spaniels and are actually big for their breed. They are not fat but taller and longer than average.
No stunted growth is not something that I have ever heard of. Dogs and bitches should not get fat as a result of being neutered. However, the period after the op when you have to restrict exercise and try and keep them quiet is the time that many put on weight then it can be more difficult to shift it. Two things I have heard about though are 1) Some people have reported a big change in their dogs personality (and not always for the better.
2) An increased period or return to immature behaviour.
Vetinary advice tends to lean toward early neutering in both female and male dogs to reduce the likelyhood of tumours and other illnesses in later life.
Ultimately it is your decision so gather all the information that you can and make your own mind up.
Not at all. It makes him a better more obedient dog. So i have heard!
Not at all, its better for the dog.
