What should I do??

Question:I live in an apartment complex and some people across the way from my balcony have a little cocker spaniel that they leave outside all day without food or water and chained. Today the poor thing has been there since 10:30am and it's hot, I live in Florida. I feel like unchaining the dog and taking it until they take responsibility for it. I already filed a complaint on the humane society web page for my county but don't know how effective it's going to be. What should I do, thanks!

Wow, it's amazing how many people out there actually neglect their pets everyday like that. Poor thing! I'm glad you had the heart to say something and call the Humane Society. Animals shouldn't be treated like that, there's no excuse. If you want to keep a dog outside all day, maybe you shouldn't have one. With how hot it is outside, especially in Florida that dog could easily get heat exhaustion. Thanks for being such a great individual and I do hope that one day stuff like this doesn't go unnoticed for even a minute. Keep being a great and kind hearted person!

call your local humane society immediately, who knows the people may have been investigated in the past. Otherwise try the non-emergency line for your local police.
Thank you for having a heart.
Call the police ,complain about it being neglected ,hearing from them should get your neighbors attention...
in england where i live we have something called the RSPCA,
they come and take away neglected animals and give owners advice on how to care for pets.

Maybe you could look in your phone book for something silmilar in florida.
Best of luck.
Call your local animal control...over...and over again.if you stay on them they will do something but you have to push them I am afraid...good luck!
Legally you've done all you can do. If you take the dog you can be charged with theft, no matter how mistreated it is. Just keep calling the humane society so they will hurry.
keep on telling humane society about this.

on your free time bring it some food and/or water so the dog wont starve or get dehydrated.

talk to the owners too. (don't make threats) tell them what's happening to the dog

good luck!
Thank you for contacting the Humane Society. As far as right now, I'd get the little guy some water. I wouldn't feed him because he could have a problem you don't know about & that could lead to trouble. I hope everything turns out well.
CALL animal control! Humane societies are flooded with emails every day about taking in dogs and adoptions etc.. your complaint was probably overlooked, or possibly not even read!

CALL animal control now and tell them that the dog has been out there every day, and is currently out there now.. it has no food and water out there. There are minimal requirements for adequate shelter and food and water.
if it were me i would go get the dog and leave a note telling the owners were the dog is. and if they continue to leave it out then i would call the humane society and tell them about the dog.
Don't take the dog! I feel very sorry for it. You can leave food and water for it, or maybe talk to the owners. And keep calling the ASPCA! If you take the dog though than you can get arrested, even if it was for good reason. Poor thing, I hope all turns out well!! Good luck!
I think you should complain to your apartment manager. Make sure your neighbors aren't breaking any apartment rules. Every apartment complex I lived in had rules about leaving dogs outside.
...just a thought.
Call the humane society and talk to them or call the ASPCA if there is one locally. Also document the dog and it's lack of food and water as evidence. Good Luck you are doing the right thing. If none of these people do anything try calling the cops.
You can call the police, I believe they have a department that will take care of it.
You needto report them to the humane society because that is neglect. They will take the dog away and fine the owners, I believe the owners can get him back under certain conditions but they will be charged accordingly and will have to prove that they can accept responsibility.
watever u do dont call the spca theyll just take worse care of the dog go banging on there door and tell them to take care of their dog then watch if they didnt do anything in half an hour call the police tell them wats happening who knows maybe those people are drug addicts if they are u can get them busted then ask the police for the dog and take good care of it but dont make it sound like u just want the dog tell them everything thats going on and if u can film it for a day give the tape to the police theyll totally bust them for ignorance to an animal and rejection to it who knows maybe u can tell them if there not gonna take care of it atleast give the dog to me or someone else who will take better care of it good luck hope they get busted!
CALL the humane society or animal control and if they don't respond right away, call the police. Only take the dog as a last resort because you could be in trouble, but that dog is going to die if someone doesn't do something.
Thank you for having such a kind heart. Please continue to contact the humane society and if they don't do anything call the police department. Please take the little dog some water if you can.
Don't take the dog even if you think you're helping it would be a crime. Do call your local animal control or police department as that could be constued as animal cruelty.
