Question:so i have heard that a raw diet is good for your dog, but could it help put a more lean, muscular frame on her than exspensive dog food would?
Answers:
I used to own two pit bulls (they passed earlier this year). From my experience, and what other owners have confirmed, is that this breed really doesn't need any help to build muscle or stay lean. Pit bulls, particularly papered pit bulls such as American Pit Pull Terriers, are bred for a number of qualities, and one of those qualities is physical stature. If you're 7 month old sweetie is well bred, you have nothing to worry about.
Also, remember that 7 months old is like adolescence for a dog. They're in their very lanky, awkward stage. My dogs were a little goofy looking until after about 1 to 1.5 years. Then they really filled out, naturally. We fed them IAMS ( a mid-low priced food), and didn't give them any special food or exercise.
Just a couple other quick tips. Pit Bulls like to chew. They have extremely strong neck and jaw muscles. You need to give them toys they won't destroy easily. No squeaky toys, no stuffed animals. They'll destroy them in minutes- as you've probably already discovered. Go with the Kong products, or Nylabones. Those are the only two dog toys that survived our boys chewing.
Also, Pit Bulls are terriers, and like most terriers, they're very intelligent. So, you need to keep them mentally occupied as much as possible. Otherwise, they'll find ways to occupy themselves, and you may not be happy with their choices.
Teach her early not to bite or mouth anyone - you'll be thankful later. Treat her like every other dog, lots of love, training, and healthy discipline, and she'll be a wonderful pet for you.
Pit Bulls are naturally muscular, they don't really need a lot of help in that area. If you want to keep your dog lean, just feed him a healthy diet, don't over feed him, and make sure he gets plenty of exercise. I don't know a lot about the raw diet, I won't try it for various reasons. I have my pit bull on Natural Choice, and she is very lean and muscular.
Who ever told you that raw diets are good for dogs does not know what they are talking about.
Giving your dog raw things can/will make them VERY VERY sick.
I have already tried that on one of my dogs a year ago and it died because of it.
I don't recommend you feed raw to your pity, they are known to get the taste of blood then turn extremely viscious toward people. talk to your vet
