Is there something wrong with my dog?

Question:Recently I've been giving him human food, but only the ones I give him regularly and he never gets a tummy ache from it but now he's having diarrhea? I'm guessing what I've been feeding him his bad, but also this happened after a fly eating his dung entered our house, could it be possible he got a tummyache from the fly or me?

Sorry, I'm a little confused because my dog hasn't been himself lately, and eats my food even before I started giving him some of my food purposely.=(

Answers:
How severe is the diarrhea? Are there any traces of blood? If your dog is losing a lot of water (from frequent diarrhea), if its showing signs of dehydration, take it to a vet now.

If its mild diarrhea, you could wait a day. It may just be bad food and its the body's way of getting rid of it. Do not give it any food for a day, just water.

Consider allergies - A lot of dogs have allergies to poultry products. After a day fasting your dog, start giving it soft foods only (soup with some rice and small bits of beef), without any poultry products. Then I'd start it on non-allergenic prescription dog foods first. If its back in good health again, try testing some poultry products and if your dog gets sick again, you'd know thats the culprit.

Is your dog vaccinated against parvo? Do you deworm it regularly? These are common causes of diarrhea. Flies can transmit parvo to pups.

Human food? do not give chocolates. Do not give food that has MSG - always check ingredients if its processed food your giving. The ham you're giving your dog could have preservatives your dog is allergic to.

You keep your dog's drinker and plate outside? Are there rats in your area? its easy to get lepto that way.

has he been using the bathroom? cuz if he hasnt he might be blocked. also try & feed him dog food. its not very good for a dog to eat only human food.

You should feed them cheap hot dogs. My dog is 21 years old and all she eats are hot dogs - 1 per meal
depends what u feed him. chocalate gives really bad diarrea, the only human food he really needs to have is mainly meat or chicken (without bird flu) Stick with dog food to be certain
People food is never a good thing for dogs it is to rich and will give him diarrhea plus lead to obesity then to a shoter life i would put him on dog food he might not eat it at first but he will learn as long as he knows that is all he is going to get
Well I think that the dog is getting because of the human food that you feed to him, since dogs get diarrhea when they eat human food. I guess what you should do is try to feed him back dog food, and see if diarrhea still hits him. And if it were to happen again I guess you will have to take him to the veterinarian.
please stop giving him your food, and feed him dog food. The culprit is most likely your food. Since he now has diarrhea, I would advise putting him on a bland diet for a few days, until the diarrhea stops. This means stuff like cottage cheese and plain rice. I really don't think a fly could have affected his stomach.
A dog can tolerate human food, but if it's really processed and full of preservatives, just keep it to your own stomach.
Dogs can get stomach upsets. If you havnt changed his eating habit then I doubt it is the food as I always feed my girls human food. Except for the ones not good for them.

My stock answer would be to take him to the vet.
Make sure he doesnt get dehydrated.
If he is drinking ok and not vomiting it up then you can give it 24 hours but after that definately a trip to the vet.
i c..dogs normally eat anything you give them to eat but not all though. by you giving him human food as his daily meals, he must have got use to it. and then there's the fly problem, there is a high percentage that the cause for your dog's problem is the fly. eventhough we could not be sure that the fly is the one you refered to, all flies are created to eat dunk..ohhh..gross! ;-)
THE VERY BEST I HAVE FOUND IS PET VALUE HAS A FOOD CALLED PREFORMATRIM ULTRA. I LEAVE IT DOWN 24/7 FOR MY GREAT DANES. THEY NEVER OVEREAT , NEVER HAVE GAS, NEVER "GO" MORE THAN ONCE A DAY!,AND ARE A GREAT BODY WEIGHT. THEY ALSO NEVER "WOLF" DOWN THE FOOD. ALSO NEVER PEOPLE FOOD! ARE YOU KIDDING? ITS KILLING PEOPLE! DONT DO IT.
I know this sounds disgusting.. But check his poop for worms.. We gave our dog a ham bone.. And he got diarrhea too.. Checked his poop.. There was the reason.. Worms. If he does have worms.. Goto a Vet to get the medicine he needs.. Good luck

Note.. They may need to actually see the worm to get the right diagnosis.. So use a glove and put one in a sandwich bag and bring it with you
cut the human food, it has not the enough nutrients for a dog. Just give him dog food. He'll eat it eventually, when he gets really hungry, he's not dumb :)
most people food is very bad for dogs, and which is it? RECENTLY give him human food or REGULARLY give it to him? Changing a dog's diet at all could cause them to get ill and have diarrhea, you should pick a good dog food and stick with just that. My black lab gets an easily upset stomach and we have to feed her Purina one chicken and rice formula, it's the easiest on her stomach, it's also a little more expensive, so we feed our Irish wolfhound kibbles & bits which is cheaper, but he doesn't have a sensitive stomach.
the human food is probably causing him problems. stop feeding it to him. our food and the way we prepare it isn't very good for them, not in any major amounts. mine only get what little scraps get thrown out in the yard. past that they eat their own food or they go without. they get hungry enough they'll eat it. and if they don't then perhaps try a different dog food. buy the small bags until you find one that he likes. but whatever you do stop feeding him human food. it'll require breaking him of the habit and stuff but he'll figure it out soon enough.
First thing you should do is contact your local vetrinarian & let him/her know your dog's symptoms. Make sure you include what you feed your dog. Also, you might want to collect a stool sample so they can check it for worms, there are many different forms of worms a dog can get including round, tape & whip worms. Or it may be that your dog has an intestinal tract problem that must be delt with immediately. Either way, it is my opinion that people food is not healthy for any animal & you should keep a strict dog food diet.

Good Luck with your dog
Well dog shouldn't have there food change because that will cause diaria too, but loking at your case I think You should have him eat his dog food even if you have to feed him from your hand... (Its pretty bad for a dog to have human food). It can cause diaria and and other problems. I mean my dog dosn't eat her food unless you feed her it by hand or throw it all over the place on the floor so she can chase it.
Please listen to me because I am very informative in this area. First off, what kind of "human food" are you talking about? You must know that dogs do not have a digestive system like humans. You should only feed your dog cooked meat/chicken/turkey with no added spices. Eggs are sometimes good along with servings of rice, vegetables, and potatoes. Most importantly, a dog's digestive system is EXTREMELY sensitive and any changes to diet must be done GRADUALLY. For example, if you feed your dog one cup at every serving each day, start off with giving him 1/4 of meat(human food) and keep 3/4's of the food what you've been giving him. Do that for a few days. Then bump it up to 1/2 of human food(cooked meat) and then 1/2 cup of his dog food. Do this again for a few days. Keep doing the change gradually----otherwise, if you don't, your dog will diarrahea all over the place.
The change in his diet will cause the loose stool. most new dog foods have rice in them and some have ham. You are right about chocolate. but it never stopped me as a kid and my dogs never died from anything I did. now as far as an upset stomach. Keep an eye out and watch to see if he is eating grass. if a dog has stomach issues they sometimes eat grass to settle it. might be a hint of whats going on with him, and if he doesn't get better in a week and the diarrhea continues or gets worse take him to a vet.
number 1 you should walk your dog more and just feed him stuff like chicken bones maybe you feed him something spoiled or rotten try buying him some dogie pills from the store to control the diarrhea and it should help him out a lot i had a dog like that it worked to.
