Question:A good diagnostic vet is needed. If anyone knows a good vet please let me know. Thanks, Don
Answers:
Nobody could tell you for sure over the internet. You didn't even give symptoms. The usual, most common reasons are kennel cough or heart worms. But it could be anything from cancer to something stuck in his throat to even thyroid disease. The vet would have to do a physical exam and feel the throat inside and out to be sure and take an xray if he felt there was something stuck. What were the two diagnosis from the vets?

And Kennel Cough usually heals up on it's own. It rarely ever causes death. It's as benign in dogs as chicken pox is in humans. It almost always goes away with time on it's own.
Did either of them say Kennel Cough? If not, that's probably it. Your dog needs antibiotics for a couple weeks if that's it. If it's not treated, and it is Kennel Cough, it turns into pneumonia, and will kill it.
What were the causes given? If kennel cough was one of them and your dog is otherwise pretty young and healthy, I'd bet the house that that's it. Heartworms are extremely rare in southern California (that's where I am too) so that is less likely. But coughs can be caused by more serious things such as congestive heart failure in older dogs, so if your dog is older or in poor health, I'd seek a third vet.
Well a cough usually means heartworms.
insist they give you dog a chest e-xray and do blood work!
two vets told me my puppy had kennel cough and $1,000 later at the doggy ER they tell me its pnemonia!
