Question:My dog usually acts strange for about 3 days after he has been groomed. Its not "crazy behavior" it is just that he rubs or puts his butt/ rectum on the floor as if he feels discomfort or doesn’t want to be touched... any ideas on why he might be doing that?
Answers:
The groomer is probably cleaning the anal glands (check with them to be sure). A lot of groomers do this. The last time that I took my dog to the vet, they cleaned them and informed me that my dog may "scoot" for a while afterwards. If your groomer did not do this, then the dog probably needs to have it done. They will normally "scoot" when they get clogged. It's uncomfortable to them.
Gross I know. :-(
my dog used to do things like that as well, he just gets excited and overwhelm after being wet and blow dryed. maybe its the stuff there using, try a diffren groomer and ask whats in the products
some dogs have anal sacs that get full and irritate the dog. that's usually the cause for them "scooting" their butts on the carpet. some groomers will clean their anal sacs and some will not. you need to see if your groomer did this or not. if they didn't, then take your dog to the vet and have them cleaned out... your dog will thank you.
Are they perhaps shaving him too close? What does his skin look like? Perhaps they've expressed his anal glands (and you should never let them do it unless the dog needs them expressed) and he's feeling discomfort from that.
Is the groomer cleaning out the anal canal? In MD they aren't allowed to do that anymore, but it must be done by the vet? Is the dog getting his bum shaved...it may be uncomfortable too.
If you don't get him groomed very often, it could simply be that the air on his trimmed butt feels funny to him.
But if he's groomed regularly, he could be sensitive about having his butt clipped. Try asking the groomer to scissor the rectum instead of clipping and see if that helps.
I have heard that some groomers give something (drug) to the dog to make them more docile.
It may be due to irritation from the shampoo or other grooming aids! Your groomer also may be pressuring the anal glands! ( a good thing)!
